A well worn path through a dry field
One of the wide open spaces of the Rhymney Valley

We live very close to the Rhymney Valley and walk here regularly so it’s a place that’s very close to our hearts.

Although it’s popular with locals like us, this lovely area – so perfect for walking and full of historical interest – hasn’t (yet) attracted as much attention from visiting hikers as the nearby Usk and Wye Valleys.

In this ebook, we’ve focused on just two of the routes that we’ve enjoyed over the past seven years:

  • The Rhymney Valley Ridgeway walk – a challenging circular trail of almost 28 miles that can be conveniently split into two days’ walking thanks to an excellent local train service between Hengoed and Lisvane. The views from the ridgeway and upland areas make the considerable climbing worthwhile
  • The Rhymney Valley Circular Walk – an enjoyable nine-miler with plenty of historical sites, woods, meadows and churchyards.
