The Wales Coast Path is a 1,400 kilometre (870 mile) long-distance footpath which follows the coast of Wales. It opened in 2012; however, it does not have National Trail status and the footpaths are maintained by the relevant local authority.
Wales was the first country in the world to have a dedicated footpath along – or close to – its coastline.
The Wales Coast Path incorporates some existing long-distance trails in its overall distance, e.g. the Anglesey Coastal Path, the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and the Ceredigion Coast Path.
The Wales Coast Path links with the England Coast Path at its border with England, i.e. at the Severn Bridge Crossing near Chepstow.
